Why American Bettors’ Voice?

Sports betting has exploded across the United States since PASPA was overturned in 2018, and the most noteworthy element of this expansion has been that the consumers of betting products, that is, the bettors, have essentially been left out of the conversation. Through political contributions and lobbying, the sports betting operators have essentially had their way with how the industry has evolved.

This reality brought Gadoon “Spanky” Kryollos, Billy Walters, and Richard Schuetz together with a simple goal: To develop a non-profit organization that would allow bettors to have a voice. That is the whole point behind the American Bettors’ Voice.

About an hour into the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary’s much-anticipated hearing on legalized sports betting Tuesday morning, Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina turned to Committee Chair Dick Durbin of Illinois and said, anticipating that Durbin will no longer chair the committee when the next Congress begins in 2025, “I don’t think you’re […]

Sports gambling operators are using artificial intelligence to track and limit problem gambling exposure for their users, but the introduction of this technology and the use of personal data also raises questions about whether it could be used for the wrong reasons. The presentation provided the WGC with a foundational understanding […]

Shohei Ohtani walks up to home plate at New York’s Citi Field, and the L.A. Dodgers fans, who are well in attendance on this Wednesday afternoon, are up on their feet. “So, ideally you get a pop-up, right? You got like five seconds in the air. God forbid the guy drops the ball.” I’m sitting […]

On election night, Missouri became the first – and likely only – state to approve a statewide expansion of gaming in 2024. And it took the electorate, not the legislature, to get the job done. Missouri voters narrowly passed Amendment 2, 50.1 percent-50 percent. In terms of votes, there were 1,468,306 for, and 1,463,940 against, […]

Missouri is the latest in a long line of jurisdictions where a lot of money is flowing into the state from gaming companies over the possible introduction of sports betting. It is presently estimated that approximately $45 million will be spent on Amendment 2 by gaming interests. Amendment 2 would authorize sports betting. There are curiosities about Amendment 2. First, […]
